Ways to Give

The reputation and strength of the College of DuPage depends on generous and visionary donors including alumni, parents, friends, COD faculty, staff and retirees, and the community.

Through gifts at all giving levels, you express confidence in the philosophy, mission and goals of College of DuPage and our community. Gifts enhance opportunities for students, faculty and the community.

Your gift can take many shapes. The Foundation team is happy to assist you in finding the type of gift that best meets your philanthropic interests.

It is because of generous supporters like you that our student experience continues to grow. Your involvement makes all the difference for students today and well into the future. Thank you for all you do. You can make a difference for the areas of COD that mean the most to you

Give Online

Gifts can be made securely through the online donation form, using your credit card.

Checks/Money Orders/Cash

Making a donation of cash is as simple as writing a check or authorizing a charge on your credit card. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the College of DuPage Foundation. You will receive a charitable tax deduction that can provide you with savings on your current year’s tax return.

Cash and checks may be delivered in person or by mail.

Gifts of Stocks and Bonds

Stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have increased in value and have been held for more than one year are one of the most popular assets used for charitable giving. By making a gift of appreciated assets, you can avoid paying capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if you sold these assets and they are tax deductible for the full fair market value when the gift is made. If you own securities that have lost value, you can sell the stock, take a capital loss deduction, and make a gift to the Foundation.  Please notify the College of DuPage Foundation team when making a gift of stock, to allow us to allocate the proceeds of the stock sale to the proper fund, according to your wishes.

Gifts of Insurance

Donors may give new or existing policies to the Foundation. If the Foundation is the owner of the policy, the donor may make gifts that are tax deductible to the Foundation for the purposes of paying the premiums.

Gifts of Retirement Assets

Most people do not use off of their retirement assets during their lifetime. A gift of retirement assets, from your IRA, 401k, 403b, pension or other tax deferred plan, could make an excellent way to give back thanks to special tax considerations. Retirement plan beneficiary designations can be changed at any time by contacting your investment manager, or by logging into your retirement account and changing the beneficiary and gift percentage online.

For more information on planned giving, visit the Planned Giving Portal

Gifts of Real Estate

The College of DuPage Foundation Board of Directors and/or the College of DuPage Board of Trustees approve all gifts of real estate. Gifts of real estate may include developed property, undeveloped property, or gifts subject to a prior life interest. The property must be without environmental concerns and generally readily marketable.

To learn more about the process of donating real estate to the Foundation, please contact Karen Kuhn. For more information on planned giving, visit the Planned Giving Portal
